‘Lions maul Petersham’
Saturday saw the UNSW Lions Baseballers face
up to their 2001 Finals opponents Petersham, coming away victorious. Two wins
from two rounds means the club are already showing signs of realising their
2002 premiership aspirations. Two home runs by Chris Dutton and one by Rod
Petre helped the team to a convincing 14-2 win and entertained a sizeable crowd
for the club's first home game of the season. A spectacular catch by Richard
Thompson shut down Petersham's offence and sealed the well-deserved victory.
This Sunday the club invites everyone to Ladies Day to watch UNSW take on
Holroyd - the 2001 Grand Final replay. Third grade starts at 9:30am, Second
grade at 11:45am and First Grade at 2:15pm at Little Bay Playing Fields. All
are welcome to post match drinks at our new sponsor, The Randwick Labor Club.

Men's Baseball
This week saw UNSW Lions Baseball Club come up against old foes Holroyd Giants at Little
Bay. Unfortunately 1st grade stumbled early and couldn’t equal the
runs late in the game, resulting in their first defeat of the season. On a
brighter note, 2nd grade won a heart-stopping tussle when Phil
Sheedy drove two runs in on a triple to the left field fence. It was at the
bottom of the 9th inning with two out and cam in perfect time to
seal the exciting victory. It was a great day for baseball and thanks must go
to all our spectators for their support & encouragement - we will be back
with a vengeance next week!
Softball
The UNSW Softball Team started the season off in fine form last Saturday, beating Norths
Leagues 4 - 1 in an exciting match. New recruit Jess Hodge pitched a great game
and there were big hits from Sophie Anderson & Jo Skinner. The team this
year has great depth and will be hungry for their first Premiership

Men's Baseball
While the girls were victorious on one side of the Bridge, the Men's Baseballers were just as successful against Sydney
University on the other side. 1st and 2nd grade recorded big wins.

Softball
The softball team had a great win over Chase on Saturday, with the final score being 9-3.
Ange pitched fabulously and was brilliantly relieved by Jess, but the biggest highlight of the game was
Libby’s three run homer, in the last innings to almost guarantee victory. Well done girls!
Men’s Baseball
The baseball teams have been travelling well, with 2nd grade sitting on top on the ladder, and 1st Grade still in contention on 4th.
Our next home game is on July 7th, at Little Bay baseball fields. See you there!
